Blog #4 MoMI

After visiting the museum, I was struck first and foremost by the various film cameras they had on display. There were several there, all from different eras, but the camera I found the most fascinating was the Three Strip Technicolor Camera, due to its size and technology of its day. I have seen many films shot in technicolor and it never occurred to me how large and complex a camera like that is. I also saw various projectors, such as a 1921 Symplex projector, which was enamors in size. The single most fascinating device I saw was the Edison Kinetoscope which is something I have learned quite a bit about but never seen in person. This was one of the earliest forms of film exhibition and perhaps the most famous, which is why it resonated with me. Lastly, I walked through the costumes and props section and was able to see how elaborate and well-crafted costumes and props are. For example, there was a suit from the film Billy Flynn in Chicago, which was worn by Richard Gere, as well as a sweater from A Nightmare on Elm Street. My favorite part of the props and costumers exhibit was the miniature Tyrell building from Blade Runner which I vividly remember from the film, and it was especially interesting to see the back of it, which had hundreds of lights plugged into it.
